Costs – Medical Studies  in Riga

Tuition fees and living costs

For medical studies in Riga, tuition fees are contractually agreed between the students and Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) and make up the majority of the total costs that you have to calculate for a medical degree in Riga or a dental degree in Riga. One should also bear in mind that the application process itself costs money.

In addition to the application fee, there are also translation costs. Many medical study agencies oversee the application process and sometimes charge up to two semester fees. We work with fixed prices and without ‘success fees’. You can find out more about the application process here.

In addition to tuition fees, students must have sufficient funds to cover living expenses (in particular rent) while studying medicine in Riga.

Applicants who have already studied medicine, dentistry or related subjects at another university have the option of being exempted from courses at RSU. These courses are then also exempted from tuition fees.

Studying medicine in Riga or elsewhere – what are the costs?

If we compare the fees for medical studies in Riga at RSU (€13,500 per academic year) with those in other EU countries, the university is in the middle range of English-language medical programmes in Eastern and Northeastern European countries. In Hungary, the fees amount to almost €15,000 per year, and in the Czech Republic to about €13,000.

Bulgaria and Romania are in the ‘affordable range’ with an average of €6,000 to €8,000 per year. But here too, the cost of living varies greatly depending on the place of study, and this must of course be taken into account for a meaningful comparison. At the private medical colleges in Germany, tuition fees range from €18,000 to €25,000. In addition, higher rent is paid than in Eastern European countries.
